Description of Elective Experience:
Our externs will experience what is it like to work in a busy suburban small animal hospital. They will accoumpany our doctors into exam rooms, help work-up sick pets, assist in surgery and help with interpretation of diagnostic results.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
We are a 7 doctor, AAHA practice in the Austin metro area. Our 16,000 sq/ft practice is equiped with digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, ultrasound, in-house blood work and more. We also pride ourselves on an excellent technical staff and customer service representatives.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
The externship is a Monday through Friday 8-5:30 experience. Saturdays are optional.
The student would shadow doctors as well as having hands on experience in surgery and in dealing with out-patients.
