The practice is engaged in Food Animal Medicine with a couple of species represented. Swine consulting is the primary focus with involvement in sow units of all sizes, nuseries and finishing facilities. A growing portion of the practice consults with dairy beef and feedlot facilities and additionally the student could receive some exposure to large scale poultry laying operations if there is interest.
The students will be exposed to population medicine and epidemiology, diagnostic collection and interpretation, therapy choices and treatment protocols, vaccination strategies, reporting and communication to clients, records and data analysis, surgery experience is seasonal and finally a broad exposure to livestock production facilities.
The Chickasaw office is a fully staffed modern office facility that is designed to provide veterinary services to clients through mobile veterinary truck units. Our four building facility is equipped with several operational offices, private doctor offices, a conference room, lab area for tissue prep and evaluation, surgery building for smaller livestock animals, large area for inventory of products and equipment, computer access and workstations, surgical instruments and equipment as well as other equipment needed for the practice of Food Animal Medicine.
The student would be expected to shadow and work with one of the staff veterianrians Monday through Friday. We do not provide after hours emergency services, however some days could extend beyond the normal 8-10 hour work day as we visit clients throughout Ohio and surrounding states.
Saturdays could be optional but occassionally an opportunity to observe office activity or go along on calls could exist.
Student housing is not directly allocated but arrangements can be made on a case by case basis.
