Warren Veterinary Hospital is a solo mostly small animal general practice. Patients are mostly cats, dogs, and rabbits but some are pot bellied pigs, snakes, turtles, and chickens. Student will be able to perform physicals, order tests, and trouble shoot with the head veterinarian. Routine and emergency surgical opportunities will be provided depending on student aptitude. Opportunity to explore practice management and ownership challenges could be made available if the student is interested. Students interested in a high case load should plan on summer/spring externships. Students who would like a slower pace should plan on fall/winter externships. The veterinarian is available after hours for any case discussions the student wishes to have regardless of when the externship is planned.
In house lab work, radiology and ultrasonography available. Access to internet, various books, and journals (JAVMA, EVECCS, JFMS) provided on site.
Student will be responsible for seeing patients daily, performing physical exams, explaining findings to clients and assisting in surgery. Student will be required to create diagnostic plans for sick pets and communicate them to clients under supervision. A veterinarian will be available at all times. The clinic is open from 8-5:30 M-F; student will be asked to be there for at least 40 hrs/week.
Housing might be available. Student should contact veterinarian for more details.
