Externship in a privately owned small animal exclusive practice. Offers the opportunity for the student to obtain hands on experiences in the field of general veterinary practice. This practice not only provides routine healthcare services, but also daily emergency/critical care services, surgery (soft tissue and orthopedic), and dentistry. The hospital also participates in a county operated spay/neuter voucher program which ensures that we always have a daily spay/neuter caseload. The student will be responsible for patient care of inpatients as well as assisting with the examination, diagnostic planning, and treatment of new patients arriving to the clinic.
The student will be monitored and mentored by the two on-staff veterinarians as well as the veterinary technical staff when necessary.
Our facility offers many diagnostic modalities including (but not limited to): in house bloodwork analyzers, ECG, radiology, ultrasound, out of house laboritory services, etc.
The student will be responsible for a 40-50 hour work week (Monday-Saturday). The student will transition between shadowing/assisting the on-staff veterinarian with all cases as well as assisting veterinary technicians with inpatient care as needed. This will include assisting with seeing appointments, creating diagnostic/treatment plans, scrubbing into surgical procedures when approrpiate, performing treatments or diagnostics on patients.
