Description of Elective Experience: 

Student will work in a busy 9 veterinary small animal hospital. Will assist visiting

internists with consultations and ultrasounds. Also will observe board certified surgeon.

Extern will do in hospital treatments and research complex cases. will have the oppurtunity

to perform spays and neuters. extern will assist with patient exams and vaccinations. Will

have the oppurtunity to perform dental procedures and extractions. Client and staff communication

skills will be reinforced.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student will be paired with one or two vets and work a 40-45 hour week. Limited

emergency hours are available to see cases as well.Student can also work with experienced

techs for catheter placements, blood draws and CT scans. Will have supervision during

surgical procedures.
