CDC’s One Health Office is involved in both domestic and global health activities that help advance CDC’s mission to protect public health and prevent disease. CDC’s One Health Office recognizes that the health of people is connected to the health of animals and our shared environment. A One Health approach encourages collaborative efforts of many experts (like disease detectives, laboratorians, physicians, and veterinarians) working across human, animal, and environmental health sectors to improve the health of people and animals, including pets, livestock, and wildlife. CDC’s One Health Office is working on a variety of projects and collaborations both domestically and internationally. Students will have the opportunity to support the One Health Office in a variety of One Health activities during their elective experience.
CDC One Health Office staff will also be working directly with the students throughout their elective experience. CDC One Health Office staff will ensure students have access to all meeting and calendar invitations and resources needed to accomplish their projects. Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all elective experiences will be virtual and students will be using their own computer.
This internship is Monday-Friday. The schedule is normally an 8-hour workday. The day typically begins between 8 am – 9 am in the mornings. Some days may start earlier or end later due to meetings, projects, or urgent requests. During the elective experience, students will be required to listen and participate in One Health Office meetings. Students will be involved in short- and long-term public health projects during their elective experience and will be working on these projects daily. Students are also encouraged during their elective expeirence to attend seminars/lectures/presentations on One Health or other public health topics that are shared with them. Students will check-in and check-out with their CDC One Health Office supervisor daily. Students will also have the opportunity to work with additional CDC One Health Office staff and other students on their projects.
Students will support the CDC One Health Office in various research and programmatic activities, including activities related to the current COVID-19 pandemic. CDC One Health Office has changing priorities and sometimes students may be working in a fast-paced environment. We ask that students are flexible, adaptable, reliable, and responsible. Students will be involved in both group and independent work within the office.
