Description of Elective Experience: 

The student would be working in a mixed animal private practice. The student would help with small animal procedures including routine appointments, sick appointments, and surgery. There is also ample opportunity to gain experience in large animal medicine and surgery as we see many cattle, goats, sheep, horses and various other food animals. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Fully equipped laboratory with in house CBC, chem, fibrinogen, PT/aPTT available. Digital x ray, mobile x ray for large animal, cattle and equine haul in facilities including a hydraulic tilt table for cattle. Six doctor practice means lots of learning opportunities. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student will be expected to be available at the clinic Monday-Friday for 8am until 5pm. Emergency calls with the on call vet are also available but not required. Student will be allowed to participate in medical and surgical procedures as long as they are comfortable with the level of involvement. Many students that come through the clinic gain experience with spays and neuters as well as many large animal procedures including calvings, c sections, etc.

Student can stay with one of the practice owners free of charge. All meals included.
