Description of Elective Experience:
At Preston Animal Hospital, located in Louisville, Kentucky, we are committed to providing the best possible health care services to our clients and patients. We are a one doctor practice with very strong support staff, including some of which have been with our practice for over 28 years! We enjoy working together as a team, are always willing to lend each other a helping hand, and are very excited about the opportunity to add an additional veterinarian to our team! Our main goal is to provide our patients with high-quality veterinary care and a large range of services to allow for complete care all under just one roof!
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
- Digital X-Ray
- Digital Dental X-Ray
- Ultrasound
- Therapy Laser
- Avimark Software
- Idexx in house
- We work with 3 different rescues every 2 weeks: including spay/neuters, tumor removals, surgeries, occasional toe amputation, cystonomy, some dental extractions
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
- Maintain medical records
- Hospitalized patient treatment
- Assistant surgeon (spay/neuter, orthopedics, soft tissue, etc.)
- Dentistry (scaling/polish)
- Obtaining medical histories
- Formulating treatment plans
- Performing physical exams (small animal)
- Diagnostic interpretation
- Anesthesia planning and monitoring
- Client communication

We will provide hospital stay near the practice
