Description of Elective Experience:
Busy mixed animal practice with small animal medicine and surgery as well as large animal medicine and surgery. Practice regularly sees dogs, cats, cattle, horses, sheep, goats, camelids, and some zoo animals.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
We have 5 DVMs, 4 LVTs and 3 veterinary assistants on staff. Our practice has an in-house laboratory (IDEXX), digital radiography, ultrasound, and a class IV therapeutic laser (KLaser). We have a large animal haul in facility as well as stocked vet trucks for ambulatory work.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
We ask students to particpate at least 40 hours per week. They may come addtional days or on after hours emergencies as they wish. They will always be supervised but can get hands on experience in tasks they feel comfortable completing.
