Diagnostics and surgery in a small animal orthopedic referral practice with a board certified surgeon. Seeing about 80 new cases each month and operating about 50.
Student will work side by side with surgeon in exam room and surgery. Clinic contains a full compliment of orthopedic surgical equipment including plates, interlocking nails, total hip equipment, external fixitors, IM pins, external coaptations, X-ray, Isoforane /nitros oxide anesthetic machines, monitors, sterile supplies, etc. Staff includes board certified surgeon, 2 registered animal technicians, 1 assistant technician. Educational resources are surgical books and internet.
Join the surgeon in every examination and "scrub in" every surgical procedure. Clinic hours are 9:30 to noon Monday, Wednesday, Friday with surgical procedures to follow from noon to finish. Student will not work independently, but will be in constant contact with the surgeon in both a shadowing and support function to maximize opportunity for teaching.
