During their time at Old Dominion Equine Associates, students will experience a large spectrum of sports medicine and general practice. This will include extensive lameness evaluations and treatments, preventative medicine, reproductive services, and alternative medicine to include acupuncture and chiropractic services. All of our veterinarians carry digital radiographs and digital ultrasounds with them, and we have an inhouse laboratory allowing students to get firsthand experience at not only preforming theses diagnostics, but also interpreting them. We strive to involves each student and allow them hands on opportunities to learn and improve their clinical skill set.
Old Dominion Equine Associates is a 6 doctor practice and most of the doctors have full time technicians assisting them throughout the day. We also have a fully staffed office with assistants that run most of our inhouse laboratory tests.
All vehicles are equipped with digital radiograph machines and digital ultrasound machines.
Shared gastroscope, videoscope, PRP/IRAP machine, and shockwave are also available to the veterinarians
In addition, an in-house laboratory and a small barn with treatment room are available for use as need by the veterinarians
Normal business hours are 7:30 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. Students are expected to shadow the assigned veterinarian during the day and shadow the veterinarian on call during after-hours and weekends for emergency calls and follow up care. Students are expected to help as need during the appointments and will be allowed to preform procedures with guidance and supervisions on a case by case basis.
Onsite student housing is available to one student at a time. It consists of a private bedroom, bathroom and a full kitchen. Our housing is at no cost, although students are free to make their own accommodations if desired. The extern apartment is located on the upper floor of the main office building and due to this we cannot allow pets.
