Description of Elective Experience:
Integrated commercial broiler chicken company. Student will experience all aspects of poultry medicine from the hatchery through processing, preventative medicine, food safety, disease treatment, pathology, and poultry management.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Student will have direct access to poultry veterinarians and other professionals for first hand experience, as well as scientific resources of local diagnostic laboratories.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Student will need to be ready to work/travel potentially odd hours, as required for the experience. Student will be hands-on in all farm visits and will be performing necropsies, collecting diagnostic samples, interpreting results, and interacting with poultry professionals and growers.
