Description of Elective Experience:
The student will be working in a 24/7 emergency clinic. We handle small companion animals including dogs, cats, pocket pets, avian and reptile patients. We are up to date and fully equipped to handle a wide variety of emergency and critical care cases.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Access to 4+ experienced emergency veterinarians. Clinic books, videos, PowerPoint presentations and other reference material available.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
The student's experience will involve observing, as well as assisting in exams, procedures and coming up with treatment plans for a variety of cases. While we can never predict caseload accurately, a typical night shift sees 5-7 cases and on weekend day shifts that will increase to an average of 10-20 cases.
