Under veterinary supervision and guidance students will be able to practice problem solving, technical and communication skills. Students are encouraged to participate in all aspects of patient care. Students will experience a typical case load of appointments/consults, dentistry and surgery. Students will gather histories, perform physical exams, develop diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations. Students will also scrub into and assist in surgery and dental as well as obtain and evaluate dental radiographs. Students will practice communicating with clients going over treatment recommendations and physical exam findings as well as producing medical notes (SOAPS). Appointment times will be extended while the student is with us so that there will be ample time to discuss each case. Students will also be able to practice their technical skills. We also see pocket pets: guinea pigs, rabbits, rats, mice, chinchillas, ferrets, hamsters, ect... birds for wing and nail trims. Students will learn proper restraint , physical examinations, diagnostics and treatment options for pockets pets if they are present for these appointments.
