We are a an AAHA accredited general practice veterinary hospital. This is a brand new single doctor practice. We perform most types of soft tissue, dentistry with radiology on every patient, local blocks etc that are up to standards of dental specialists. A mobile orthopedic surgeon is called to perform any necessary orthopedic surgeries. We work with 2 local rescues for discount spays and neuters to help out the community.
We have digital radiology, digital dental, in house labwork, we are staffed with a registered veterinary technician, veterinary assistant and receptionist. We have a plethora of books (surgical, formularies, internal medicine, critical care, clinical pathology) for reference on site as well as membership to VIN for additional help from specialists on difficult cases. The veterinarian has had 14 years experience in general practice with 6 years of simultaneous full time experience at a local emergency facility in the beginning of her career.
I'd expect they would want as much time at the clinic during busy hours as possible. It's not a requirement on our part. I'd expect them to want to be there when we are busiest and would let them leave when we are slow at the end of the day or start late if we are slow in the beginning of the day. I'd expect them to want to perform some of the less complex surgeries (spays, neuters, simple mass removals etc) under my guidance. They are allowed to go into exam rooms and see patients based on what they feel comfortable with ahead of time and as long as clients are comfortable seeing a student. I'd expect if they aren't comfortable they would observe when I'm in the room and what I'm doing and then follow up with any questions or perform a second physical exam on top of mine. We see appointments/surgeries between 9-7pm on Mondays and Thursdays; 9-5 on Tuesdays and Fridays, 9-2 on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Sundays we are closed.
