Vida Veterinary Care - Denver, CO

Warning message

The Colorado Workers' Compensation Act requires student interns to be covered by workers' compensation insurance. Ohio State is not able to add students to its institutional workers' compensation policy. Prior to scheduling an externship in Colorado, students must work with their externship supervisor to ensure that Colorado worker's compensation insurance requirements will be met. Proof of worker's compensation coverage must be sent to Dr. Emma Read for verification. If a student is not covered by a worker's compensation policy for their externship they will not earn academic credit for the rotation. Description of Elective Experience:
  • Our practice treats patients ranging from cats and dogs to birds and other exotics. As a hospital, we provide GP, UC and ER services to the species we see. The student will have daily discussions and rounds with the veterinarians, case discussion, treatment discussion and potentially scrub in on surgeries! We serve a diverse clientele and are located in Denver near Denver University.
  • Veterinary externs may be placed with one of our several DVMs pending their interest and goals for their externship. We have DVMs that work on exotics, enjoy surgery, provide acupuncture and rehab, and even leadership/management duties.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We typically have 1 assistant and RVT per doctor. Our hospital not only sees appointments, but we hospitalize overnight so we have inpatients as well. This requires an RVT or technical assistant in treatment too. The technicians also see their own appointments when able.

We have laparoscopic equipment that 3 of our DVMs are trained to use. We have an endoscope, digital dental x-rays, digital x-rays, ultrasound, Ligasures, and more!
