THE EXTERNSHIP PROGRAM
THE GOALS OF THE EXTERNSHIP ARE TO PROVIDE A HIGH LEVEL OF EXPOSURE TO BROADEN THE INTERESTS AND SKILLS OF VETERINARY STUDENTS.

The extern will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, friendly environment. This program will provide the extern with enough clinical exposure to pursue further studies in areas of interest in equine medicine.

REQUIREMENTS
Externship applicants must be a veterinary student or graduate veterinarian with general interest and experience in equine medicine and surgery, as well as have:
- A basic knowledge of horsemanship.
- The ability to work as a team.
- A positive attitude.
- Great people skills.

Full Sports Medicine Team for Lameness
2 Fully Stocked Rigs for Service in the Field

1 Surgeon
Currently 3 Interns (2 starting this winters)
Ultrasound, Digital Radiographs, Shockwave Therapy, Regenerative medicine, Myleogram, Theraplate, EQ Ultrasound, Cold Laser, Beamer, PEMF, Cold Spa Chillers, Deep Water Pool, Hot Walker, Water Walker, Nebulizer for Breathing Treatments, Estrous Cycle Management, Fresh/Cooled and Frozen Semen Insemination , Embryo Flush & Transfer, Ovum Pick Up (OPU), ICSI (Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection), Embryo Cryopreservation, Ultrasonography Fetal Sexing, Infertility Work Ups and Treatment
We offer actual hands on experience/support. Most days are 12 hour days 5-6 days a week. We are a very fast paced and busy clinic.
- Hands on experience with ICU and Hospital treatments; Physical Exams, oral meds, IV & IM administration, placing catheters, help triaging emergencies.
- Assisting with day to day appointments; Lameness - shadowing the Vet learning what he/she sees. Scrubbing for joint injections, learning where needles are placed for joint injections and holding for joint injections
- Assisting with Surgeries, if comfortable, will help with anesthesia and/or scrub in.
- Taking and assisting with Digital Radiographs/Ultrasounds
- Assisting with or performing shockwave therapy.
- Assisting DVMs on Farm Calls
- Pass Nasogastric tubes on Colic's
