Valley Veterinary Clinic, WI

Description of Elective Experience:

In general, students will have the opportunity to get significant palpation/ultrasound experience, as well as medical/surgical experience. Those interested in advanced reproductive services will find plenty of opportunity to ride with our Genetic Services team. Other areas in which students can get experience include records analysis, calf lung ultrasound, employee training, and team meetings/consultation. Students also participate in our whole-team breakfast meetings on Wednesday mornings, where we discuss cases, ask questions, and catch up.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We are a 17 doctor practice with an emphasis on providing hands-on opportunities. We have spare ultrasounds for reproductive work and all other equipment needed for the student to get experience.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Students will ride with one of our vets Monday-Friday and the weekends are optional. Days typically start between 6-7:30am and finish at 4-5pm, however this depends on each vet's schedule and how busy our call book is. All we ask of students is that they have a good attitude, professionalism, and willingness to participate and learn.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

Housing is available in our two-bedroom apartment with a full kitchen. There is no cost for housing and we coordinate prior to student arrival to get them access. No pets are allowed.
