Stow Kent Animal Hospital, OH

Description of Elective Experience:

Stow Kent Animal Hospital offers a full range of services, from routine care to advanced diagnostics, including surgical and dental suites. We employ low-stress techniques to ensure a positive, stress-free visit for both owners and patients.

Students can engage in an interactive learning session with one of our experienced DVMs.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

In addition to RVTs and veterinary assistants, our fully staffed hospital has 8 DVMs ranging in experience from under 10 years to over 40.  Our medical director is also ABVP boarded in Canine/Feline, and he is a major contributor to the VIN exotics associate database.  In addition to dogs and cats, two of our doctors also treat a wide range of exotic animals as well as some backyard farm animals in a non-ambulatory manner.

We have a particular dedication to continuing education and staying current. Each week we have a coordinated doctor’s lunch which the student would be expected to attend. At the meeting we get CE, much of which is Ohio RACE approved, to learn about new treatments, procedures, drugs, etc.

Within our practice we offer diagnostic services including modern ultrasonography, digital radiography, endoscopy, EKG, blood pressure, surgical monitors, a high and low speed dental unit and digital dental radiography, as well as a comprehensive in-house laboratory (CBC, Chemistry, U/A, Coags).

We work with a local shelter and can usually arrange some supervised spay/neuter procedures if the student is interested.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
