Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, OR

Description of Elective Experience:

This is a state agency wildlife externship.  Case load is variable and we are often dealing with population health issues and outbreak investigations.  There is a lot of necropsy and forensic science that will occur during this externship.  Data entry, wildlife capture and sampling will also likely occur during this rotation.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We have access to state resources as well as a number of Oregon State University resources due to close collaborations.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

We expect the student to be available 5 days a week working 8-hour days unless a specific capture or sampling trip has been schedules (where hours may be extended).  However, compensatory time off can be taken if work more than 40 hours in a week.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

Not currently available.  Usually people look through university housing sites or air b and b's in the area
