Description of Elective Experience: 

Individual appointments are seen in house with most herd services performed in the country. Bovine Reproduction (estrus synchronization, artificial insemination, embryo recovery, freezing and implanting, breeding soundness evaluation, portable ultrasound pregnancy evaluation.) 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Large animal resources include portable manual chutes, three portable hydraulic chutes, three portable hydraulic tub/chutes, large animal surgery/working room, bovine neonatal ICU, and embryo transfer lab. Stationary tilt tabled. Our small animal medicine/ surgery practice has two exam rooms, one surgery room, and three kennel rooms (feline, hospital, and canine separately). Capabilities include gas anesthesia, digital x-ray, ultrasound, dental machine, in-house blood machine, and U/A.  

Other Personnel :

Six full time veterinarians, three part time veterinarians, five receptionists, five large animal technicians/chute hands, plus additional part time/seasonal help. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Follow one of 9 veterinarians throughout their day.  Typically 730-5 every day of the week with the potential for some after hours emergency exposure.

 

Expectations typically follow the experience and comfort level of the student.
