Students will have an opportunity to attend behavior consultations with a board-certified veterinary behaviorist. Behavior modification sessions may be observed and in some cases, students may participate. Students may also assist with client follow-ups during their second week on the rotation. Approximately 10 - 12 two hour cases are seen each week along with behavior modification sessions.
We are a 24-7 emergency and specialty hospital with board certified specialists in oncology, internal medicine, critical care, cardiology, surgery, dermatology, behavior and radiology. A full support staff of veterinary nurses and assistants is also available.
Students spend 4 - 6 days at the hospital depending on the week. Hours are typically 8 - 6 though there is variation with the specific day. Students may share responsibility for history taking, physcial examination, laboratory sample collection and processing, guiding patients in and out of the hospital, and conducting patient follow up by telephone. Based on skill level, students may demonstrate behavior modification steps for the client.
