Shadowing DVM(s) in general veterinary practice setting. Students can go with doctors into exam rooms for any appointments, participate in the patient evaluation and the creation of differential diagnosis list(s), offer clients diagnostic options, observe surgical procedures with possible opportunty to assist, etc.
We are a fully staffed general practice veterinary hospital - on any given day we have 1 - 2 assistants, 2 receptionists, 1 - 2 technicians, and 2 or 3 DVMs on duty. We use Antech laboratory services for most bloodwork, all biopsies, and utilize their available specialist(s) if needed. Equipment-wise we carry ultrasound, positive pressure ventilator, electrocautery, digital xray and digital dental xray, as well as numerous surgical toolsets for orthopedic surgeries such as TPLO. We perform orthopedic surgeries in addition to general elective procedures.
We are open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 7 pm. Saturdays we are open from 9 am to 5 pm. Students are more than welcome to join us for as much of that time as they would like. Shadowing (observation) is all that is expected of the the students, there is no obligation to perform tasks such as restraint but the opportunity does exist if the student is interested and would like to help.
