Banfield Pet Hospital is a small animal general practice. We have a strong focus on preventive medicine and surgery, but we are a full service veterinary practice. Daily preventive care case load includes routine vaccinations, ovariohysterectomy, castration, and dental cleanings. We also care for a variety of illnesses and non-preventive care surgical interventions including, but not limited to diabetes mellitus, gastroenteritis, dermatitis, otitis, mass removals, dental extractions, and cystotomy. Veterinary elective participants shadow their mentor doctor through all aspects of day to day practice. Students work with their mentor to work through presented cases and develop treatment plans.
We are a full service small animal veterinary hospital. Our staff consists of two full time veterinarians, two client service coordinators (receptionists), and seven veterinary assistants. We have digital radiographs, full in house blood analysis, sterile surgical suite, separate anesthetic dental cleaning station, and perform in house urinalysis, ear cytology, skin scraping, and skin cytology.
Veterinary students are expected to work approximately (but not more than) 40 hours per week consisting of 4 ten hour days following the schedule of their mentor. We are open 7 days per week and actual days worked will vary with the mentor's schedule. Students are expected to shadow the veterinarian and participate in surgical and medical procedures with direct supervision based on the students competency and comfort level.
