This clinical private practice elective will provide the student with hands on experience in a fully functioning primary and secondary care practice that offers preventative medicine, internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, endoscopy, dentistry, radiology including ultrasound, laboratory diagnostics and alternative diagnostic tools and treatment options.
The student will have full access to our AAHA, AAFP, Idexx, nutritional and behavioral digital and print libraries as well as access to VIN, VSPN, atDove, VetFolio and DVM360 and have the opportunity to participate in online ultrasound and companion laser training courses as well. There is an owner who is the chief medical officer as well as three full time and one part time practicing veterinarians currently on staff. There are 7 full time veterianry technicians and 2 full time receptionists.
The student will have the opportunity to participate in history taking, determination of appropriate vaccines based on age and lifestyle, learn appropriate choices of parasiticides and preventatives, able to determine appropriate diagnostic tests and how to interpret them, participate in diagnostic imaging techniques and interpretation of images, follow appropriate sterile technique and scrub in for surgical procedures, learn and become familiar with surgical instrumentation names, handling and their proper care, participate in dental procedures and help to provide and carry out treatment plans. Other opportunities may arise depending on the cases that are seen while the student is present.
The student will have a full time schedule between 40-50 hours of immersion time in the hospital spread out over the week.
Student family home is local to our practice and may be available.
