Description of Elective Experience: 

All Creatures is a longstanding general practice clinic in Long Island that strives to provide excellent care to the communities' pets. Students can expect to gain an understanding of how a high quality general practice hospital is operated. They should expect to see a large caseload of both medical and surgical cases. All of the doctors and technicians encourage asking questions and will walk the student through procedures they are not familar with.   

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

- 4 doctors, 6 licensed techs, 2 tech assistants, 4 receptionists, and 7 kennel workers on staff

- Digital x-ray, Ultrasound, Low level laser, full surgery suite, CO2 surgical laser, dental x-ray, oxygen cage, large collection of textbooks available at the student's disposal

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

- The student is responsible for showing up on time, being respectful of clients/pets, and maintaining a positive attitude throughout the rotation. They will have the opportunity to enter the exam room for appointments and contribute at their comfort level. They will assist in decision making, further diagnostics, and determining a plan for the patient. If an appointment transitions to surgery they will be able to scrub in and assist with the surgery. If the student is interested in dentistry they can shadow the technician performing the dental. 

-The student will work 5 days a week for 40 hours and can expect to see 30-50 cases a week.
