Always Helpful Veterinary Services, PA

Description of Elective Experience:

This is a sophisticated integrative medicine practice.  I and/or my associate are certified in chiropractic, acupuncture, Chinese herbs, homotoxicology, ozone therapy, laser therapy, electromagnetic therapy, functional and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Food Therapy, and other modalities.  Our patients include horses small ruminants, dogs, cats and some exotics.  We stress excellent client communication and education and are well known for our extremely effective low-stress, no-fear animal handling techniques.  Many animals seen in our practice are top level competitors, also animals with unresponsive disease processes including cancer, auto-immune disorders, allergy and food sensitivity, behavioral disorders, epilepsy and chronic pain.  Canine rehabilitation and exercise therapy for post-surgical cases as well as preventative care are a growing part of the practice. Dr. Urban is certified in Canine Rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee, and she offers instruction to clients for active participation in at home rehab, therapy and fitting techniques. Students will be encouraged and allowed to observe, examine, and palpate some physical chararcteristics of the many unusual cases we treat.  Simple in-office techniques will observed and practiced as time allows.  The large animal practice includes sophisticated dentistry, farriery, behavioral therapy and all the integrative modalities as well. There is a teaching herd of animals at the farm that can be utilzed by students for practice  We offer continuing education for professionals and the public on a periodic basis. .http://www.AlwaysHelpfulVeterinaryServices.com

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Our office hours are 11-7 Mondays, 9-6 Tuesdays through Fridays, by appointment only. Shadowing and/or participation to whatever extent the doctor, patient, client and student feel comfortable with are encouraged.  Expectations of the practice and of the students are discussed and positive coaching, self-evaluation and discussion of performance are how all of us learn here.
