Animal Emergency Hospital, MI

Description of Elective Experience: 

AEH is a small, local emergency practice. We see a variety of emergencies from the surrounding areas including both medical and surgical emergencies. Experience will involve triaging incoming patients, initiating emergent stabilization measures, formulating treatment and diagnostic plans for patients and well as in-patient medical case management. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Experienced DVM on site during extern hours, 1-2 LVTs during shift along with 1-2 VA's, 1-2 CSRs and 1 triage support staff member. AEH offers an array of modern diagnostic tools available to you such as: IDEXX digital radiology, 2 ultrasounds (Butterfly and Sonoscape S2), in-house IDEXX lab analyzers (Procyte, 2 x Catalysts, 2 x Snap Pro readers, Coags, Sedivue, vetlab U/A analyzer), Heska EPOC, and microscope. The clinic also has a full surgical suite, isolation area and two Snyder oxygen units.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

AEH is currently open from 10 am to 8 pm 7 days a week, externship hours will fit within open admitting hours. Will shadow DVM on site and work together through case management.
