Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA), NJ

Description of Elective Experience: 

The student is rotated through all of our services including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Neurology, Surgery/Dept. of Oral Surgery,  Anesthesiology, and Emergency and Critical care. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

AERA is a member of NVA-Compassion First Network.  We are in a 45000 sq. foot facility.  We have 5 surgical suites - integrative surgical suite with C- arm. AERA has a full diagnostic suite including MRI, CT, and Linac.  We have 15 doctors and approximately 70 support staff. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

The student is expected to be on the floor 40 hrs per week. Schedule can arranged a 4 ten hour days or 5 eight hour days. Nights, weekends, and holidays may also be expected pending on timing.  The schedule can be adjusted bases on student interest. 

    The student will be shadowing the doctor, performing physical exams, determining problem lists, discussed diagnostic and treatment plans.
