Description of Elective Experience: 

Student will have the opportunity to perform physical examinations of feline and canine patients, develop diagnostic plans, collect samples and evaluate samples, develop a therapy plan, assist with surgical procedures including soft tissue and dental procedures. The student will also have opportunities to discuss history and case information with clients with which the student is comfortable.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Banfield uses online training guides to help establish safe practices. There are many online educational sources to which the student will have access. There are two doctors on staff that will be available to answer questions and engage the student with learning opportunities. The hospital is fully functional from a preventative care standpoint and some emergency cases are evaluated and treated occasionally.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

My schedule is 35 hours per week and the student is expected to come during the hours I am scheduled. Shadowing and support will consist of constant interaction and opportunities for practicing skills and challenging knowledge.

Work hours are M-F 9-7; Sat 9-5, Sun 10-5; I'll suppy the student with her actual schedule via email.
