The extern will be scheduled the same hours as the Chief of Staff. The work week is either 4 or 5 days and will involve weekends. Doctor hours are 10 am-5 pm on Sunday and 9 am - 7 pm Monday- Saturday. Extern students will be in a learning roll 100% of the time. This can involve shadowing the Chief of Staff or other senior doctor, performing physical exams on drop off or sick pets, making treatment plans to discuss with the doctor, discussing treatment recommendations with owners, scrubbing into surgeries, and completing required Banfield extern online learning modules. Specific tasks will be determined based on extern's interests and current caseload.
