Banfield Pet Hospital - Pittsburgh/Cleveland Market, OH

Description of Elective Experience: 

Students will work alongside current veterinarians to help oversee internal medicine and emergency cases as well as routine preventative care appointments commonly seen in General Practice. Students will also get hands-on experience with technical skills as well as dental and surgical experience.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Students have access to our online resource library, VIN, high speed dental, digital dental radiography, digital radiology with telemedicine consult, in house lab equipment with the ability to perform routine CBC/Chem, urinalysis, fecal exams, cytology, numerous in house snap tests. Hospitals are staffed with multiple fully trained technicians per doctor so that doctor time can be spent focusing on medicine and client communications

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Externs are expected to work 40hrs per week (no overtime) over 4 to 5 shifts. Some weekends are expected unless otherwise arranged. Amount of shadowing vs hands-on experience is determined based on student skill and comfort on an individual basis
