Description of Elective Experience:
This will be a peak into the workings of a busy private corporate owned practice - we see a variety of animals including exotics and we perform a number of surgeries.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
4 doctor practice with 14 support staff, digital dental and survey radiography, hi-speed dental unit, surgical suite, Doppler blood pressure, IDEXX Catlayst and Snap-pro readers, Abaxis CBC, and other routine lab items.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
40 hours per week - can be broken into 5 x 8 hour days or 4 x 10 hour days, I would like to see shadowing, basic skill set for physical examination and management of preventative medicine case, blood draw and IV catheter placement skills, blood work and fecal analysis, etc. If opportunity arises will also allow the student to participate in basic surgery.
