This experience allows veterinary students an opportunity to learn and work with a diverse number of exotic animals from psittacine birds, poultry to rabits, reptiles and other small mammals. We are a full service exclusivley exotic animal hospital. The student will learn husbandry of these species along with common medical conditions. They will perform histories, common life-saving procedures, including fluid administration and gavage feeding. They will help with grooming and have an opportunity to watch surgeries being performed. They will attend our Journal Club and have an opportunity to present a case report.
We have 2 full time vetereinarians and 1 part time veterinarian. We have 2 RVT's and 4 support staff. Our owner is a board certified avian specialist and has authored several books and lectures around the world.
Our equipment includes digital radiagraphy, Abaxis blood machines, a Phillips Ultrasound machine, an oxygen concentrator and a fully equiped surgical suite. We have 3 exam rooms and a room dedicated to ultrasound.
The student is expected to come to the practice Monday through Saturday. They will help with morning and evening treatments, we will teach them and have them hold a variety of exotic species for physical exams and/or treatments. We will have them groom birds and give SQ fluids, IM injections and take blood samples. Our hours are Monday-Friday 9am-6pm and Saturday 8am-1pm. We are closed on Sundays. There is always a DVM and RVT in the building when open.
