Description of Elective Experience: 

Gain real-world experience working in a busy general practice. Learn how to balance finances and client expectations with providing the best possible quality medicine and outcomes. Gain experience tailoring treatment plans to abilities and needs of individual clients. Occasional house call euthanasia services.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

High volume 3-doctor general practice with emphasis on affordable quality medicine. State-of-the-art equipment: CBC/chemistry, digital radiography, ultrasound, surgery and therapy laser, etc. Three veterinarians, highly trained staff of technicians and receptionists, VIN access, plenty of text books, relationship with large referral center (PVSEC).

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Depending on mutual comfort level, participate in or perform routine vaccination/well check appointments, spays, castrations, and other minor procedures. Perform history, PE, discuss Ddx & treatment options with vet, then present to owner & carry out agreed upon treatment plan.

Expect 8-10 hour days 5 days a week, Saturday morning clinic hours are available.

Great Bed and Breakfast next door (Grand Vallely Inn), hotels nearby. It may be possible to arrange housing with a staff member given enough advanced notice.
