Brookside Animal Hospital is the third longest continuous running hospital in Texas. We've been providing care since 1955. Brookside is an established small animal general practice that also sees exotic animal species, along with the occasional large animal patient. We’re in a small town that is 30 minutes South of the DFW metroplex. Our clinic sits on 22 acres. We have a separate boarding facility, a barn, stalls, cattle chute, and pens.
Students would work closely with the veterinarian on staff. They would assist in triage, surgical procedures, appointments, client communication, charting, and clinical work-ups.
We have two full-time veterinarians, one part-time veterinarian, 8 veterinary technicians or assistants, and 3 kennel technicians. The community is growing, and we continue to grow with it. We provide high quality veterinary medicine. Brookside has full IDEXX in house laboratory, digital radiology, handheld digital dental radiographs, three ultrasound machines including one ultrasound capable of providing cardiac workups and one for large animal reproduction, surgery suite, full anesthetic monitoring, TonoVet, cold laser, rhino-scope, all hydraulic lift tables, video otoscope, video microscope, dental table, and we perform minor orthopedics currently.
In the future we plan to continue obtaining the latest veterinary equipment. Goals for the next year are to acquire a gastroscope, CO2 cutting laser, and specialty equipment for exotic animal medicine. We plan to provide our patients with more advanced orthopedic surgeries, and chiropractic management.
Students would follow the veterinarians on staff. They would be responsible for assisting in triage, surgical procedures, client communication, charting, diagnostics, clinical discussions, and clinical work-ups. Students will work up as many cases as they are comfortable taking daily. They will assist in any diagnostic procedures for these cases, client discussions, and follow-up treatments. They will be expected to perform physical exams, and implement any diagnostics or treatments necessary.
We have an covered RV on site that is free to the students when visiting our clinic. We are pet friendly as long as the pet is up to date on vaccines and prevention. We also provide a stipend, that varies dependent upon how many weeks the student is visiting.
We work Monday-Friday, no weekends or after hours. We do make exceptions occasionally if patients are being hospitalized.
