Buffalo Small Animal Hospital, NY

Description of Elective Experience: 

2 week externship at a 2 DVM general small animal practice, located in the heart of downtown Buffalo. Experience will include working with DVMs on surgery and appointment as we communicate with our diverse clientele to provide excellent health care to our patients.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

2 DVM, 4 full time LVTs, 3 part time LVTs, OR suite, dental procedure suite, digital radiography, digital dental radiography, ultrasound, IDEXX suite of in house lab work analyzers, access to mobile ultrasounds LVT and mobile internist.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Work with DVMs on surgery and appointments. 40 hours per week, specific schedule to be arranged with each student. Students can get involved in procedures such as physical exams, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, surgeries, dental procedures. Involvement will be based on student's skill and DVM involved on the case.
