Description of Elective Experience:
Immersive experience for 4th year veterinary students in which they are paired with a tenured veterinarian in the specialty of their choosing. Externs are encouraged to participate in patient care including the ability to perform diagnostics, procedures, and client communication.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Full service ER/Specialty hospital with specialists in Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Integrative Medicine, Surgery, Oncology (Medical, Radiation, Surgical), and Emergency. Journal access and all major veterinary textbooks are accessible. Full service equipment including radiographs, ultrasound, CT, in-house lab, surgery, etc.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
4-5 shifts per week, 10-12 hours per shift. Predominantly shadowing with opportunity to participate in patient and client car.e
