Carrollton Animal Hospital, OH

Description of Elective Experience:

We are a busy practice located Carroll County Ohio approximately 45min. SE of Akron, Ohio.  Our location provides students with a more rural practice type and clients that are not looking for a referral.  The practice treats primarily dogs, cats, and horses with the occasional other species seen on an individual basis.  There are currently 3 full-time doctors to learn from.  One clinician treats only dogs and cats with a personal interest in orthopedic surgeries.  One clinician treats only horses with a personal interest in Equine dentistry.  One clinician treats all species with a personal interest in Equine reproduction and podiatry.  Two of our clinicians are also dually trained in chiropractic and acupuncture with the practice providing those services on a regular basis.  Our practice offers a unique blend of species and interests for a student to learn from with warm-small town clientele.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Student would be expected to work alongside our regular clinicians mirroring their schedule.  This includes a 4-day work week with rotating on-call schedule for Equine emergencies.  Individual experience can be catered to include more surgical vs. appointment based responsibilities as well as small animal vs. Equine.  The student will be assigned to a clinician each day they are scheduled and will work with them for the entirety of that day performing tasks in accordance with individual comfort/experience level of student.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

There is a Candlewood Suites close to the clinic that can be utilized by the student.  The cost is around $100/night with a full kitchen included, gym, and wifi.  The hotel is not pet friendly, but if need be the student could keep their pet at the clinic.
