Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Externs work 5 days a week 8 am to 6 pm (generally off  Friday and Saturday, but this is flexible). Please inform us if you have particular time off requests, or if there is a desire to have a variation on this day shift.
Students are expected to be on call for after-hours emergencies on the days they work. This is a great opportunity to get hands on experience.
Students start by shadowing staff (bringing in emergencies, taking histories, helping with diagnostics, treatments, discharges, including learning how to teach clients to administer treatments), then performing these tasks when comfortable. The student will start focusing on shadowing doctors and following through with medical and surgical cases when they are comfortable with Avimark and the appointment/emergency triage and history taking process.
Students can help at all levels of patient care (including in surgery), but always with supervision.
