Description of Elective Experience: 

CityVet is a busy, urban small animal and exotics practice in the heart of Dallas, TX. This practice sees many small animal medicine and surgery cases as well as exotics such as rabbits, guinea pigs, lizards, snakes, birds, and pot-bellied pigs. Students will get to experience dentistry with radiographs and extractions, surgical cases from routine spay/neuter to GDV repair and splenectomies. We offer full imaging services from radiographs to ultrasound. CityVet also focuses on wellness and preventative medicine with a client-centric model.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Our hospital has a well- trained expansive staff to allow the doctors to focus on client-facing time and practicing best medicine. Our hospital has full lab capabilities including CBC, chemistries, coagulation panel, urinalysis, and istat machines. CityVet has digital radiology for routine radiographs and dental radiographs, as well as ultrasound in clinic. Our surgical suite is equipped with the newest anethesia machines and monitoring equipment. The pharmacy is stocked with new pharmaceuticals and the traditional medications.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students are expected to work a full time schedule to mirror the doctor's schedule. A typical week would include 4 weekdays from 9 am-6 pm and a Saturday from 8 am-2 pm. Students are encouraged to attend continuing education dinners when available.
