Description of Elective Experience:
We are a 2.5 doctor general practice that services small animals and exotics. The student will perform exams and be involved with the diagnostics for the patient and order treatment.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
We have 2.5 FTE doctors on staff. We currently have 4 Licensed Veterinary Technicians, with 2 relief techs that help us on occasion. Currently 5 veterinary assistants and one Certified Veterinary Practice Manager.
Equipment- We have Idexx in house lab equipment, digital rads and digital dental rads. We have a surgical laser and also a therapy laser.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Student will work M-TH with Dr. Engel, and Saturday if scheduled.
- Student will be responsible for performing/assisting in exams
- Student will be responsible for charting medical records and communicating medication needs with clients
- Students will participate in case discussions
- Students will be allowed to assist in surgeries, if ok'd by client
- Students will develop diagnostic plans

We plan to have an on-site apartment available if student chooses to use it.
