Description of Elective Experience: 

Veterinary students will participate in a comprehensive, hands-on training and mentorship program. Doral Centre is a 24-hour facility that provides a wide range of services, including small animal general practice, emergency medicine, and everything in between. Our offerings include general and emergency surgery, dentistry, wellness visits, endoscopy, and much more. Students can expect to work in a dynamic and diverse environment with abundant opportunities for professional growth and an engaging experience.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

3,000sq ft, 9 Dr Practice, 60 support staff members.

Xrays, ultrasound, endoscopy, dental X-rays, ligasure.

 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

The student is expected to shadow one or more doctors during their time at our clinic. Our shifts are 12 hours long, and we typically schedule students for 3-4 days per week, resulting in a total of 40-48 hours per week. The student will always be paired with a doctor.

Students expectations:  

  • Charting medical records and communicating medication needs with clients.
  • Participating in daily case discussions/rounds. 
  • Assisting in surgeries.
  • Developing diagnostic plans.
  • Performing physical examinations.
Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

We do not provide housing, but we can offer a stipend if needed and we do paid externships.
