Description of Elective Experience: 

The student will be provided with a realistic equine ambulatory medicine environment. Student will work all hours the ambulatory veterinarian works, and ride around in the truck. Student will assist with all treatments, procedures, diagnostics that are required. Students will eagerly participate in discussions regarding cases and develop their own diagnostic and treatment plans. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 
  • Extern should be responsible and self motivating as some tasks will be done without immediate supervision.
  • Extern will be responsible for charting medical records in the truck between calls.
  • Extern will be responsible for assisting at all farm calls, and taking primary case responsibility when deemed appropriate.
  • Extern will independently review current recommended therapies and be prepared for case discussions.
  • Extern will take initiative in developing their own diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
