Eastern Animal Hospital is a large, state-of-the-art veterinary hospital complete with primary, surgical, dental, and urgent care/emergency services. We are a multi-doctor practice and have a visiting orthopaedic surgery specialist who works from our hospital a couple days a week. We have an ultrasonographer who comes to the practice a couple days a week as well. The extern will be able to work alongside tenured and less seasoned doctors in a team setting seeing a wide-range of cases. We are frequently sought after for advanced medical care. We have an intensive care unit and have support staff on-site 24/7/365. A veterinarian is on-call when one is not in the building. We perform most all soft-tissue surgeries at our hospital. We have a full dentistry suite complete with all that is needed to provide the best care. We have excellent relationships with local specialists and have the ability to send patients for CT/MRI at John’s Hopkins. Our hospital is located right off of Interstate 95 in southeast Baltimore. We are a multi-doctor practice with strong management and mentorship. Our support staff includes registered technicians, experienced technicians, tech assistants, client experience specialists, as well as boarding and daycare personnel. We have hosted externs in the past and have had great success with new graduates. We firmly believe that all of our doctors, past and present, have become better clinicians thanks to their experience at our hospital. Our hospital is brand-new. We moved to our current location in the spring of 2019. We have all of the necessary equipment to perform top-notch medicine including full monitoring capabilities, oxygen caging, an ICU, a full in-house lab, a stocked in-house pharmacy, an in-house ultrasound, digital radiographs, and a video otoscope. We have a double surgical suite complete with ligasure, suction, a ventilator, laser, monitoring, and laparoscopic capabilities. We do full digital radiographs on all dental cases. Other equipment includes an endoscopy machine and an on-site oxygen generator. The hospital has an emergency generator to keep the facility in full operation during power outages.
The extern will be scheduled to be in the hospital for 8-10 hour shifts. We are open seven days a week. The student will be shadowing and may have the ability to perform some actual support under doctor/staff supervision.
