Students work closely with our ER doctors (all internship trained) or our board-certified specialists. They are permitted to go into rooms with clients, perform physical exams and participate in decision making regarding diagnostic and treatment plans. Students are NOT permitted to perform any procedures.
We are a 24 hours specialty and emergency veterinary hospital. We have 12 ER doctors that staff a 24hr/7 day emergency service. We have board certified specialists in critical care (3), internal medicine (3 and one residency trained individual), oncology (1), neurology (2), cardiology (1), surgery (2) and one residency trained dentist. We have a separate ICU that is staffed by 3 technicians and an assistant 24 hours a day. We have a 1.5 tesla MRI, 64 slice CT, 2 ultrasound machines, 1 ultrasound machine specifically for echocardiography, hemodialysis (Phoenix), TPE (Prismaflex) and hemoperfusion (Revive Machine by AimaLojic), Fukuda ECG telemetry.
Students are expected to arrive at 8am in time for clinician rounds that start at 8.30am. Students stay until 5pm (or whenever the specialty service finishes for the day). Students can examine patients and contribute to case discussion but are NOT allowed to perform patient related procedures (including IV catheter placement, blood draws, surgery, endoscopy etc)
