Erlanger Veterinary Hospital, KY

Description of Elective Experience:

Our hospital is a busy six doctor AAHA Accredited practice in Northern Kentucky. We see a wide array of animals on a daily basis including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, reptiles and occasionally an exotic animal from the Ark. We have a diverse group of doctors that all participate in general practice as well as their own specialties including exotics, behavior modifications, nutrition, reproduction, dentistry, surgery and orthopedics. We have in house lab equipment, radiology, ultrasonography and therapeutic laser therapy. We are a surgery center that performs surgeries including spay/neuter, tumor removal, dentistry (root canals, cleaning and tooth removal), exploratory, hemilaminectomies and more. We perform surgeries Monday-Friday in the mornings and see sick and well appointments all day Monday-Saturday. We usually have 2 - 3 doctors with appointments and 1 surgeon each day.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

We have six doctors, 9 technicians, 3 kennel assistants and 4 receptionists. Our equipment includes: in house lab equipment, digital x-ray, ultrasound, therapeutic laser, endoscope, dental x-ray equipment, well stocked medical library

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

We expect each student to make the best use of their time with us. We are very hands on and love to teach! We expect our students to work 3-4 days during the week during our hours of operation (8AM - 6:30PM). We always stay until the last patient leaves, so rarely will be leaving at 6:30pm. We expect that the student shadows all of the doctors at some point throughout their time with us.
