Description of Elective Experience: 

General Practice in a rural/suburban area with an emphasis on education and relationship building. Wellness care, wound and illness treatment, surgery- soft tissue and orthopedic, dentistry and oral surgery, and day time emergency may all be a part of a student's day here. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

We have two 21 year experienced Vets and one part time Vet with 8 years experience. We staff with two support personnel- Tech or Assistant per Doctor, and the appropriate kennel and front of house professionals.

You will find digital xray- full body and dental, anesthesia monitoring- blood pressure, pulse oximeter,  EKG with dedicated staff monitoring respiration and IV fluids, in-house chemistry analyzer, Idexx labs and specialist support personnel, portable ultrasound, therapeutic laser, tonopen and pediatric endoscope.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

We are flexible with students and can provide up to 40 hours of DVM supervised experience. We expect they will be able to handle appointments and exams, create diagnostic and treatment plans and direct staff, all with DVM follow up, by the time they leave us. We will provide opportunities to assist with and then perform surgery. Students will develop clinical judgement and perfect techniques including record keeping.
