Farm & Family Veterinary Service, IL

Description of Elective Experience:

General mixed practice in a rural setting consisting of about 80-90% small animal with the remainder mostly equine or bovine and some small ruminants.  Spay and neuter, general surgery, small animal dentistry, behavior consults with fear free techniques utilized, wellness.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

DVM and CVT, x-ray, ultrasound, laboratory, surgery suite, high speed dental unit and dental x-ray, therapy laser.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

We would like the student to be present during the hours our DVM is working, approximately 8-5 M-F and Sat 9-12.  The student will shadow cases and be involved in exam, diagnostics, and treatment of the patients.  We would love to have the student as involved as possible in each case under the direct supervision of the DVM and CVT.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

We have a small office with a bed a full bath that is off-site on our farm.  There is a small refrigerator but no cooking facilities.  I wouldn't recommend bringing any pets, but accomodations may be possible.
