Description of Elective Experience: 

Fremont Animal Hospital is a 3 doctor Companion Animal Hospital located in Northwestern Ohio about 15 miles south of Lake Erie.  We provide comprehensive preventive care, internal medicine and surgery to clients from several counties. We also work with three humane societies /organizations to provide some shelter care and one wildlife rescue group   Elective experience will include opportunity for students to interact with clients, patients, veterinarians and technical staff .    

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

We have 3 veterinarians on staff, 5 Registered Veterinary Technicians, 4 Animal assistants, 1 Practice Manager, and two kennel assistants.

The hospital has full in house laboratory(Idexx Hematology/Chemistry)(AlfaWasserman wet chemistry). digital (CR) radiography , digital dental radiography, high speed dentistry, Laser Therapy, Ultrasonography and Surgical Suite.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will provide 35-40 hours services 6 days a week. Students will receive hourly employment and possible living arrangements on site or nearby.  Students will be responsible for client communications and patient triage, charting,  blood draws and blood result evaluations, vaccine administration , cytology collection and evaluation   assistance in surgery and opportunity to spay and neuter patients.  Students will participate in daily treatments, case discussions, assisting in forming treatment plans .

On site or nearby. No accomodations for pets at living quarters. May be boarded at clinic.
